BITMAP: A Modular System for Flexible Seating and Interaction

BITMAP by Todd Bracher for NII at salone del mobile milano

A modular seating system rethinks interaction through flexibility, form, and spatial openness.

Presented by NII at Salone del Mobile.Milano 2026, BITMAP by Todd Bracher explores seating as an adaptable spatial system. Composed of two interlocking rectangular volumes, the piece disrupts conventional lounge typologies through an asymmetrical yet balanced form. The smaller volume extends functionality—serving as armrest, side table, or additional perch—while remaining accessible from multiple directions.

Designed as a modular unit, BITMAP allows multiple pieces to be combined into varied configurations, supporting different modes of interaction—individual, paired, or group-based. Its pixel-like geometry enables intuitive arrangements without prescribing use.

Rather than defining behaviour, the system establishes a flexible framework that accommodates shifting patterns of occupation, aligning with contemporary workspace dynamics and informal social exchange.
