Suffused in the hues of the sky, and metaphoric in the spirit of abandon, Dhairyasheel Powar of Studio Unitecture breathes serene life into this second home…
Aptly simulating the theme of the sky, the blue accents begin at the very entrance of this 1150-square-feet residence on the outskirts of Pune.
Spaces stress on flexibility, catering to a range of configurations using modular and easily movable furniture. Merging the dining and living, an informal set-up with multi-use furniture – such as a long divan that the designer envisions as a sofa, a bed, or a space for a siesta – creates its own identity. On a similar note, the design of the dining table unconventionally houses a corner couch and makes a cosy work nook at will.
Carving out private spaces, tucked away nooks and niches allow manifold experiences. With a sprinkle of informal elements such as bean bags, lounge chairs, and a whimsical yet elegant chandelier floating ethereally over the dining, a playful element shines through.
Visually tethering the study – which doubles up as a home theatre – with glass partitions, this central volume feels spacious. The design adds to the height of the volumes by foregoing false ceilings. Expansive windows blur the line between indoors and outdoors. The décor borrows from lush green views of a golf course to create an extended visual landscape, ensuring a relaxing ambience. The space transforms from serene and calm when bathed in natural light, to a cozy lounge at nightfall.
The bedrooms further the serene blue theme, juxtaposing contemporary and vintage touches. The children’s bedroom adopts a restrained, neutral palette with a multi-activity raised platform for the bed, using this level difference as an element of play. Patterned throws, a textural rug, and an arresting armchair… create visual interest, while bare walls adorned with paintings and a smattering of planters through the space showcase the homeowner’s love for both art and nature.
Crafting a home away from home, the design team seamlessly juxtaposes a contemporary urban aesthetic against mellow materials to create a snug, yet open, inviting space.
