Ar. Smitha Zachariah of Zachariah x Piers creatively crafts this lively apartment in Bengaluru using vivid, pulsating colours that make the spaces pop…
The 1900-square-feet residence shows a bold application of colours juxtaposed with a sensitive use of patterns and is liberally dotted with handcrafted flourishes that spell uniqueness.
The home is endowed with abundant natural light streaming in from expansive living room windows, creating a sense of spaciousness. A restrained neutral backdrop lets pops of colour stand out, adding serene warmth to space. Addressing the constraint of small volumes, the designer elevates the space using soft hues and multiple patterns, juxtaposing them harmoniously in an in-the-face approach.
Showcasing a cheery application of colours, every bedroom encapsulates a different theme. From using baby pinks and sky blues for an innocent vibe, to a striking contrast of zesty yellows against cool blues, to muted neutrals set off by a tastefully restrained use of bright hues, the three bedrooms capture a world of emotions and experiences through colour. Using contrasting hues, the design makes the small spaces feel vibrant and layered with depth.
Despite the vast palette of scintillating hues, no singular shade overshadows or dominates. Hints of gold run as a common thread through the apartment, elevating the spaces with a touch of luxe appeal. Wood, brass, Indian prints, vibrant upholstery, Duco finished cupboards, hand-embroidered fabric play centrestage as exquisitely crafted pendant lights hang low from the ceiling, creating the illusion of height.
Accent furniture, statement pieces such as the golden chandelier in the dining room, the carefully crafted language of furniture design and selection of pattern, discerningly crafted bespoke backdrops and the like…display the designer’s keen attention to detail. Bespoke artefacts scattered around the house create a visual focal point for each space. Strung together using a modern visual language, ethnic motifs scattered through the range of patterns add a traditional touch while creating visual interest resulting from the layered approach.
With imaginative narratives enhancing every nook of this residence, the team at Zachariah x Piers create a stunning family home that looks equal parts homely and inviting.
