Turner Road Architecture designs a striking, visually arresting Café for the Tamahere Country Club (a luxury retirement village) residents that has also become a popular social hub for locals and visitors to the region.

A head-turning piece of architecture with its light-filled contemporary design aesthetic stands out amidst a beautifully landscaped area in the rural outskirts of Hamilton, flanked on one side by an arched schist bridge, accompanied by a waterway and fountains that extend along the southern boundary of the built form.tamahere country club cafe designed by turner road architecturetamahere country club cafe designed by turner road architecturetamahere country club cafe designed by turner road architecture

Large floor-to-ceiling glass walls adorn a striking angular form clad with textured metal scales and natural timbers. A linear length of vertical timber louvres anoints the façade adding a dynamic dimension, not just shielding the interiors, offering privacy, but also regulating the amount of light and heat that enters the interior.tamahere country club cafe designed by turner road architecturetamahere country club cafe designed by turner road architecture

Alfresco dining adds yet another dimension with 120-square-metres of outdoor seating covered by a stunning cedar-lined ceiling. The ceiling also features adjustable louvres that allow the roof to open-up so patrons can enjoy the sun when weather permits.tamahere country club cafe designed by turner road architecturetamahere country club cafe designed by turner road architecture

Inside, the café boasts a 235-square-metres floor area, providing ample room for patrons to relax and enjoy their dining experience. The space is light and airy due to the expansive glazing and a high, timber-tiled angled ceiling.tamahere country club cafe designed by turner road architecturetamahere country club cafe designed by turner road architecture

Warmth infuses the interior with the use of timber and a muted neutral colour scheme. Terracotta pendant lights hang in the atrium and a gentle-rust shaded marble feature wall, adds to the warm and inviting atmosphere with varied seating options that offer personal comfort.tamahere country club cafe designed by turner road architecturetamahere country club cafe designed by turner road architecturetamahere country club cafe designed by turner road architecture

A unique part of the design is the large angular window that offers a scenic view of the outdoors. It is not only instrumental in defining the built form but also marking an iconic landmark in the region.tamahere country club cafe designed by turner road architecturetamahere country club cafe designed by turner road architecture
