Suzhou Museum of Contemporary Art reinterprets Suzhou’s garden tradition through interconnected pavilions, courtyards, water and art. Along the edge of Jinji Lake, the 60,000-square-metre museum takes the form of a village composed of twelve pavilions beneath a continuous, ribbon-like roof.The central idea comes from Suzhou’s historic gardens, particularly the lang: a long, covered passage that guides movement through changing landscapes. The designers have translated this spatial principle into a network of interconnected galleries and courtyards.
