This week has been a great round of learning – meeting architects and designers from a few cities in a particular state to understand their sensibilities and the tour de force behind the regional flavour. Whilst, on one hand, these interactions have endorsed that design is to a great extent culture-centric, it also establishes the fact that it is indeed interdisciplinary and boundless.

In this issue, two things stand out – the urge to revisit one's roots and the gradual bent towards naturalism. deEarth Architects exemplify a beautifully integrated courtyard typology sans compromising on the urban mindset and current lifestyle choices. A must-check-out project. Studio Motley, too, highlights how a single element – the bamboo louvered screen can infuse the home with so much character with its chiaroscuro properties. Earthy and minimal, the home espouses an understated timeless appeal.

The other two projects from Neri & Hu and LLUM Architects also order on the tenets of less is more – although different in their treatments and philosophies.
