What happens when a sculptural chair is designed around the way we actually sit?

ORUHA looks like a sculpture, but its unusual form is designed around the human body. Its asymmetrical silhouette creates a sense of personal space, while the curved armrests are shaped to nestle naturally into the hands, making the chair feel surprisingly embracing. Crafted from hard maple and walnut, each piece is refined by hand using traditional Japanese tools, giving its sculpted surfaces a tactile quality that machines cannot easily reproduce.

Designer Yuya Nakazawa draws on the rhythm and composition of film editing, treating lines, proportions and changing viewpoints almost like scenes in a sequence. The result is a chair that shifts with light and perspective while remaining deeply comfortable—an object where craftsmanship, sculpture and everyday experience come together.
