Studying Matrimandir’s Greens

At the confluence of nuanced landscape design and a collaborative approach, Rupal Rathore, Anandit Sachdev, and Vir Shah conceive the evocative Life and Power Gardens at Matrimandir, Auroville. The Matrimandir, an arresting dome with an all-encompassing presence, has always been central to Auroville. Also known as the Peace Area, 12 lush gardens surround this central meditation pavilion. Incorporated into the city’s masterplan by late French architect Roger Anger, it was Auroville’s founder and ‘The Mother’, Mirra Alfassa, who anointed specific spiritual themes to each garden.
