Wooden free-form architecture| Reinventing space in retail design| Breaking away from conventional row-house typology| and more

[ad_1]

Dear IAnDians,

Innovation is the heart of design! The wooden free-form building – the Museum of Bread by none other than master architect firm, Coop Himmelb(l)au, is a mesmerising sight to behold. The shiny almost-as-if-in-motion steel shingles that clad the façade shimmer in the sunlight as they hold within an all-wood circular exhibition space. Belonging solely within, the exhibits are subjected to an intriguing spatial drama!

In the same vein, our stories this week enunciate space and spatiality as a palpable element of architecture. Whether it is about carving out interactive interstitial spaces in a neighbourhood of row houses; or highlighting and chiselling two spatial definitions out of a single area; or even enhancing a spiritual experience via a premeditated deliberation on religious sentiments… ‘space’ is under the hammer of innovation this week.

And taking the cake is our cover story, where space is treated on a human scale with a pragmatic twist. As one learned designer once told me, “Space is like change in our pockets! Small denominations can’t buy you a thing; but put them all together and you may be able to reckon with their value.”

Do check out the multimedia show. It’s superb!

Warmly,

Savitha Hira
