In a country that sees no end to craft and art; Amalgam, that we showcase as a case in point is but one of the many design outlets that work towards revival or conservation of the traditional in the contemporary avatar. This brings to mind design re-engineer Bela Shanghvi’s efforts with craftspeople of Kashmir and Mizoram (see our section Thought n Impact). But are we truly making the best use of these culturally rich talents? I personally think we ought to move away from table lamps, mats and coasters and imbibe the craft into pure design.
