Dear Reader,

It is indeed a proud moment for the design fraternity to have India’s Pradyumna Vyas as president-elect of the World Design Organisation (WDO). In times when Indian architects and designers are pushing the envelope by infusing their craft with purpose, straddling a sustainable approach, and addressing local challenges while resonating with global solutions and practices, it is exhilarating to see India’s growing presence on the design map of the world.

The WDO supports the creation of solutions-based design projects to address key development issues globally. The growing awareness of the value of design and a representation in the World Design Organization are positive developments for India’s design community. The WDO’s focus on design for a better world is an excellent opportunity for common designers to engage in collaborative efforts and address some of the world’s most significant economic, social, and environmental challenges from a design perspective.

Unfortunately, team IAnD’s efforts to reach Mr. Vyas were in vain, so we do not have it from the man himself. But, being in the know of his work as the ex-director of NID, his work with the Confederation of Indian Industries (CII), and his advocacy of sustainability and, circular design across India suggests that his primary focus would be on ‘Design for Sustainable Development’. Looking forward to wholesome progressive design thinking!
