Contemporary interiors of historic building| Visual phenomenon of the façade| From basement to self-contained cocoon| A sculptural smile| and more…

Dear IAnDian,

It takes a fraction of a second sometimes, to form an opinion – good, bad, ugly… but the most amazing thing about any design is the detailing that goes into its making. Besides the concept, it’s the actual working that takes the cake. Our two stories that stand out in this issue are the two facades – the continuous ribbon-like contextual façade of the Batignolles district building in Paris and the restored façade of the century-old Valencian architectural building in Spain. Both exercises are diligently tethered to a sensitivity… of scale, of context, of human interface, of time. Insular in their approach, both designs throw up a dynamic interior architecture. Do check out the stories – they are rich in their contribution to both – interiors and exteriors.

Adding a touch of quirk is another story from Valencia, Spain; this one about a theme-based interior for a dental clinic tells you how a simple design can be complexed to deliver a wow factor. Lastly, our basement refurbishment from Delhi, where a subtle palette alludes to underlying luxury.

Happy reading!

Warmly,

Savitha Hira
