Buildings as sculptural works of art| Reinventing Bandhini as a contemporary style statement| Working with classic forms| and more

[ad_1]

Dear IAnDians,

There is a sculptural quality to his buildings. That Ar. Sanjay Puri is an artist, only adds to his sensibilities of design and perception. His recent outing – The Street – which he says, takes inspiration from the streets of the old city of Mathura, has a depth that is perhaps unexpected of a hostel building.

The overlapping interplay in the structure; the climatically inclined openings; and the use of colour…all aver to the chiselling that a sculptor uses as his most benign tool.

But this architect’s contribution is not all that makes this week’s issue exciting. We have a tall, climatically-sensitive high rise by none other than stalwarts UNStudio – another unique response to context. The abstract interaction of form juxtaposed with streamlined adroitness speaks handsomely of the ingenuity of the architects.

And of course, there are other stories too… enjoy the read and get back to us with your thoughts…

Warmly,

Savitha Hira
