                        Design Impact Special Edition

Commemmorating the week-long Design Impact Special, where we have collated features on the impact of design on society, our Guest Editor, eminent Prof. Anil Gupta from IIM-A, pens this definitive and succinct edit: “Every time a futuristic design emerges, possibility of institutionalized inertia at individual, institutional and societal level goes down. The button in our psyche, which quickly produces reasons for maintaining status quo can actually be disabled. Designers have a responsibility to trigger debate. Whether we create a bubble to insulate a park housing biodiversity or reduce the pollution itself though new heuristics, new provocations and rituals have to be debated.

End of the pipe solutions, whether for hanger or bubble may create a mental poise that lets us continue with business as usual, and the designers will take care of the rest. Please, do not take care of the rest. Do not give society a hope that we can have a sustainable future without reordering our priorities and practices”.

Read… be enlightened and empower!

Warmly,

Prof. Anil Gupta
